I would rather die than be fake. I would rather not be able to speak than to speak untruths that did not align with who I say I am. I crave authenticity and depth like no other and will search relentlessly for it.
Yet it is a process for all of us to be congruent and true to ourselves in all areas of our lives and we will go through many iterations of what feels true and authentic to ourselves as we learn and grow each and every day.
It was in my late teens and 20’s that I started having self-awareness of how I would act differently with different people. Some friends would bring out the hyper, crazy, playful me while others would bring out the calmer, more focused, deep thinker me – and there were many other parts that would show up at different times. Yet all of this was me and all of it was ok. I was exactly where I was meant to be in my development. Trying on new identities, trying to figure out what my authentic voice sounded like.
We continue to grow and develop and as we continue moving through life, we can look for those moments of congruence…moments where we can feel that our insides and our outsides are matching – and feel proud about the work that it takes to feel this.
We get there when we make a solid and steadfast commitment to ourselves for personal growth and a keen willingness to stay present and aware to discrepancies within ourselves – which requires a deep and sometimes painful inside exploration or conversations and reflections from those we love and hold most dear (believe me this is harder than it sounds).
The more often you can make choices in alignment with who you are, the closer you get to more of that beautiful, centering and delicious feeling of coming home to yourself.
