
For decades, food has been such a hot topic in our society. We talk about fad diets, what to eat, how much to eat, how to fast, healthy foods, restaurants etc.
Why do we talk about  food so much?
Why is eating the right foods so difficult?
Why do people constantly engage in fad diets?
Why can?t people maintain their healthy weight?
Is there a simple answer to this question?……. sort of…
They reason we have such a challenge with food in the United States is not because we are lazy, uneducated, or even unmotivated. It stems from a hiding in plain sight reason.
The simple truth is it is because we are unbalanced in our lives and we turn to unhealthy eating regimes to make ourselves feel good. However, when one turns to food as a band aid for the rest of their life, it starts a vicious cycle that can dramatically make your life worse.
Imbalance is the root to most of our challenges in life. We don’t sleep enough, exercise enough, engage in genuine social relationships and play enough.
So how do those imbalances lead to food issues. Food is easy to control and is instantly gratifying. For example, it’s hard to engage in the recommended amount of exercise/physical activity to lose weight. It’s hard to make new friends and build strong and lasting relationships. It’s hard to quiet the mind through meditation. All these things take time and patience which are two concepts our society has greatly steered wary from. Our society is more like, I want it and I want it now.?
After a long day at work, the last thing most people want to do is exercise, meditate or talk about deep topics with their loved ones. Those are challenging and it takes even more work.
But it’s real easy to purchase that Snickers bar and receive an instant feeling of satisfaction and reward. Â Then we eat the snickers and ice cream and pizza etc, to feel good for a minute followed by an almost immediate dose of guilt!
