Hello All, my name is Joseph Celis and I hope to be your self-defense instructor. Just a little bit about me; I have been a student and teacher of Martial arts for about 30 years, I am a former Police Officer, I have had the opportunity to be a Self Defense Instructor for over 15 years, and I have been in many Self Defense situations.
I am passionate about teaching Self Defense because I love to see people become empowered. I have had many former students tell me about how much more aware they have become of their surroundings and how much safer they feel about their life after taking my class. I love hearing these stories and I will continue to teach and evolve my classes for as long as I can.
So why Self Defense.I am a black belt in Martial art. I am asked this question a lot. Firstly, I love Martial arts and I encourage you to take one or more if you are motivated to do so. Martial arts can provide you with fitness, confidence, discipline, a skill set, etc. However, our Self Defense course is different. We teach you how to sharpen your situational awareness skills, recognize possible threats in and around your environment, identify criminal mindset and behavioral characteristics, use of Self Defense tools, and how to articulate your Self Defense in a court of law. In addition, we cover easy-to-remember, practical and effective Self Defense combat techniques. The main objective of our class is to sharpen your awareness enough to significantly reduce your chances of being in a Self Defense situation. However, if you are involved in a Self Defense situation, you will know exactly what to do.
I have felt an uneasiness or tension among the students at the start of every Self Defense class that I have ever instructed. Rightly so. Self Defense is serious. It’s not like learning dance or doing Yoga. The students are aware that the techniques they will learn may one day save their lives. Many of my students have been victim to assault, sexual assault, and rape. They are looking for a class to help them overcome their fears and empower them on their path of recovery. Other students just want insurance just in case the time ever came to defend themselves.
For whatever reason you are looking into taking our Self Defense course, it will positively impact your life, and I look forward to working with you to that end.
