We have a new class offering at S.A.G.E. Holistic Health & Wellness Center: Creating Your Sacred Space taught by Brandi Holloway, MSN, RN, Reiki Master & Sacred Space Practitioner. This class will use intention to build and maintain sacred space, help you manifest abundance and invite prosperity into your life and will help you create more balance and self-care. But first, what is the meaning of sacred space and ritual?
Throughout history and across all cultures, rituals and ceremonies have been used to bring people together. Rituals offer creative power to connect with ourselves, and our communities; to mark special occasions and honor rites of passage. In fact, long before psychotherapy and counseling, ritual was a common means to work with fears and desires.
Modern society has shifted from communal living with extended family members to nuclear families. This shift has made it difficult to keep cultural rites and ceremonies for many people. We may become disconnected from our most authentic selves, risking isolation. Life is enriched when we engage our attention to our emotions, uncover our fears and celebrate our transitions.
Creating a sacred space of purposeful intention allows us to mourn the loss of loved ones, and the end of relationships. Rituals and ceremonies celebrate womanhood, birth, and new beginnings. We can use ritual to guide us through life-threatening illness as a transition and initiation into another phase of life, by providing sustenance for everyone involved. Ritual is a vehicle for focusing on health while accepting the presence of illness by reducing anxiety and alleviating emotional and spiritual pain.
Rituals support our human need for structure, balance and to encourage habits of self-love. By strengthening our connection to inner spirit, we potentially release old wounds or traumas. Simply put, ritual is a powerful tool for creating sacred space in everyday life.
