Jose Quirarte

MA, AMFT #143062

Life can be overwhelming, especially when you’re trying to make sense of who you are, where you come from, and how you want to move through the world. I am a queer, Latinx, second generation, immigrant, therapist with a passion for supporting BIPOC, neurodivergent, and LGBTQIA+ folks navigate life’s challenges. I also enjoy working with couples, relationships, and poly structures of all kinds in supporting them through challenging relational issues. I offer both telehealth meetings for clients throughout California, and in-person sessions for my clients in a cozy office setting in Tustin, CA.

I believe that therapy is a human to human encounter, and my approach reflects that. I offer a grounded, humanistic, and empathetic approach to therapy that puts my clients in the expert seat about the things they want for their life. Life is chaotic and messy, but we don’t have to be perfect. I seek to accompany my clients through finding the best ways for them to navigate the chaos in a way that aligns with their values.

Meet Jose

Through my personal and clinical experiences I have become familiar with the challenges BIPOC, immigrants, neurodivergent, and queer folks face, and I aspire to support these communities both inside and outside of the therapy room. As a result, therapy for me is not only a service I provide, but an opportunity for justice, liberation, and transformation.

My work is informed by my background in researching BIPOC history and feminist theory. I use this foundation to build therapeutic relationships rooted in helping clients reconnect with themselves and their inherent cultural and community-based knowledge.. Clients working with me can expect an empathetic but straight-forward therapist who supports them in both their own personal or relational growth, and in their liberation from oppressive systems of power. Outside of the therapy room, I am a giant nerd who enjoys anime, pokemon, World of Warcraft, movies, and spending time with my boyfriend.

Therapy With Me Feels Like

Therapy with me is a collaborative, experiential, and relational process. I first co-create a relationship with my clients based on understanding, empathy, and trust. Once we have established your goals, I will offer tailored therapeutic care utilizing evidence-based practices to support you in your growth. However, I will not pretend like I know the answer to all of life’s problems. Life can be messy and I am also just another messy person trying his best. I believe that all my clients have the wisdom and expertise to live lives that are meaningful for them, and therapy can be a collaborative dialogue that creates new perspectives, solutions, and opportunities for growth and transformation.
